📚 오늘의 문법: 시제 일치 (Sequence of Tenses)

개념 설명

주절의 시제에 따라 종속절의 시제도 맞춰야 합니다. 특히 **간접화법(Reported Speech)**에서 자주 쓰입니다.

주절이 현재/미래 → 종속절은 어떤 시제든 가능

She says she is tired. / She says she was tired.

주절이 과거 → 종속절도 과거 또는 과거완료로 이동

예외: 변하지 않는 사실, 습관, 일반 진리는 시제를 유지

She told me that water boils at 100°C.

He said he was working on the project. ← He said, “I am working on the project.” (그는 프로젝트를 진행 중이라고 말했어.)
She told me she would send the files later. ← She said, “I will send the files later.” (그녀는 파일을 나중에 보내겠다고 말했어.)
They announced that the product had already launched. ← “The product has already launched.” (그들은 제품이 이미 출시됐다고 발표했어.)
He asked if I could join the call. ← He asked, “Can you join the call?” (그는 콜에 참여할 수 있는지 물었어.)
The manager explained that the deadline was the following Friday. ← “The deadline is this Friday.” (매니저는 마감이 다음 금요일이라고 설명했어.)

의미: 책임을 맡다, 더 적극적으로 나서다; 강화하다
예문: We need someone to step up and lead this initiative. (이 이니셔티브를 이끌 사람이 나서야 해.)

의미: 단계적으로 없애다, 폐지하다
예문: The company is phasing out the legacy system by Q4. (회사는 Q4까지 레거시 시스템을 단계적으로 없앨 계획이야.)

의미: 전화로 참여하다; (비격식) 완벽히 맞추다, 집중하다
예문: The team dialed in the performance after weeks of optimization. (몇 주간의 최적화 끝에 팀이 성능을 완벽히 맞췄어.)
